From signup to your first scored backlog
This walkthrough takes you from a blank signup form to a workspace that’s actively scoring your backlog. Most of it is answering a few questions - Pilea does the heavy lifting.
Step 1: Create your account
You can sign up two ways:
- Email - enter your address and we’ll send you a magic link. You’ll see a Check your inbox screen; click the link in the email and you’re in. No password to invent, no password to forget.
- SSO - sign in with your existing Google, Microsoft, or GitHub account.
ℹ️ Note: Your workspace data will be hosted in the European Union.
Step 2: Tell us about yourself
Next, Pilea asks a few questions on the Tell us about yourself! screen, including your organization name and your company website.
The website matters more than it looks. When you enter it, Pilea shows Analyzing your product website and reads your site to understand what you build. Based on what it finds, it suggests workspaces and tags tailored to your product - so your workspace starts out shaped like your business rather than a generic template.
💡 Tip: In a hurry? This step is skippable. You’ll just start with a blanker slate.
Step 3: Configure PII redaction
Pilea removes Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from feedback before analysis - names, emails, and other personal details.
- Review the redaction toggle. Leave it on unless you have a specific reason not to.
- Use the per-category switches to fine-tune exactly which kinds of PII get removed.
- Continue to the next step.
You can change all of this later in Settings → PII Redaction, so don’t agonize over it now.
Step 4: Invite your team
Add your colleagues’ email addresses on the Invite team step. Invites are sent once setup completes, so nobody lands in a half-built workspace.
As the screen says: “You can always invite more from Settings.”
Step 5: Land in your workspace
Once setup finishes, you’re in. But an empty workspace can’t score anything - which brings us to the checklist.
The “Activate your agents” checklist
In the sidebar you’ll find the Activate your agents checklist with three steps. Complete all three and Pilea has everything it needs to analyze feedback and score your backlog:
- Connect a feedback source - takes you to Integrations. This is where your mentions come from; without it, there’s nothing to analyze.
- Connect GitHub Repositories - link the repos where the work actually ships.
- Add company context - takes you to Documents. The more Pilea knows about your product and audience, the smarter its analysis gets.
💡 Tip: Do the feedback source first. As soon as feedback flows in, Pilea starts turning it into mentions, linking it to customers, and building scored backlog items - the rest of the checklist makes those results sharper.
Once feedback is flowing, head to your backlog and sort by Priority Score. That’s your first data-driven ranking - built from real customer signal, not gut feeling.
