Connecting Slack to Pilea
When you connect Slack to Pilea, your team can send feedback directly from Slack conversations using emoji reactions, @Pilea mentions, message shortcuts, or the /pilea slash command. You can also have Pilea capture every message in chosen channels. Pilea posts a receipt back in the thread, and your skills can deliver summaries and updates to Slack on a schedule.
Slack is included on every Pilea plan.
What you’ll need
- Admin access in Pilea
- Permission to install apps in your Slack workspace
How to connect Slack
Step 1: Install the Slack app
- In Pilea, go to Integrations in the sidebar under Data Sources.
- Find Slack in the catalogue and click Connect.
- You’ll be redirected to Slack to authorize the Pilea app.
- Review the permissions and click Allow.
- You’ll be redirected back to Pilea with an Integration connected toast, and the Slack settings dialog opens.

Step 2: Invite Pilea to channels
The Slack app only sees channels it’s been invited to. Invite it to the channels where your team discusses product feedback, and to any channel you want Pilea to post updates to.
- Go to the channel (e.g.,
#feedbackor#product-feedback). - In the message composer, type
@Pileaand send it. Slack will offer to add the app to the channel.
💡 Tip: Create a dedicated #feedback channel and let your team know that anything tagged there goes directly into Pilea. This gives you a clean, focused feedback stream.
Step 3: Choose your settings
Click Settings on the Slack card to open Slack Settings. These are set per workspace:
- Capture Emoji - The emoji your team reacts with to capture a message. Defaults to
seedling(🌱). - Listen Channels - Every message posted in these channels is captured as feedback into the current workspace, no reaction needed. Each channel has a Test connection button so you can check Pilea can see it.
When you have listen channels, three more options appear:
- Post receipt in thread - Reply with a “Feedback captured” confirmation on each message picked up from a listen channel.
- Tag with emoji - React with the capture emoji on each message picked up from a listen channel.
- Add thread comments as well - Append replies in the thread of a captured message onto the original feedback. Bot messages are skipped.
How to add feedback from Slack
Once the Slack app is installed and invited to a channel, your team can add feedback in four ways:
1. Emoji reaction
React to any message with the capture emoji (🌱 by default). Pilea captures the message as feedback straight away and shows you a private prompt with an Open Feedback Modal button, in case you want to add customers, tags or a different workspace.
This is the fastest method - no forms, no context switching.
2. @Pilea mention
Mention @Pilea in a message and Pilea captures it as feedback. It replies in the thread with “Feedback captured. Analyzing…” and a link to view it in Pilea, then updates that reply with a short summary once analysis is done.
3. Message shortcut
- Hover over any message and click the three dots (overflow menu).
- Pick the Pilea shortcut.
- The Submit Feedback modal opens with the message text filled in.
4. Slash command
Type /pilea in any channel where the app is invited. Add text after the command (/pilea customers keep asking for CSV export) to pre-fill the feedback field.

The Submit Feedback modal
Whichever way you open it, the modal has the same fields:
- Workspaces - which Pilea workspace(s) the feedback goes to
- Customers - search your customers or customer groups. Picking a group registers the feedback against every customer in it
- Tags - tags to apply
- Feedback - the text itself
Updates and summaries in Slack
Slack delivery is configured per skill, not on the integration. Open a skill, choose the Slack channel(s) it should post to, and set its notification mode: Silent, Summary or Full. Pulses run skills on a schedule, so a weekly digest can land in #product every Monday. Remember to invite @Pilea to those channels too. See Pilea, skills and pulses.
Troubleshooting
Pilea isn’t capturing feedback from a channel
Make sure the Slack app has been invited to that channel. Type @Pilea in the channel to invite it. The app can only see messages in channels it’s been explicitly invited to. If you expect every message to be captured, check the channel is in Listen Channels for the right workspace.
No receipt appearing in the thread For listen channels, receipts are optional - switch on Post receipt in thread in the Slack settings. @Pilea mentions always get a thread receipt.
Emoji reaction isn’t working The app must be invited to the channel where you’re reacting, and you must be using the emoji set as Capture Emoji. Also verify the Slack app is still connected - check the Integrations page for a “Connected” status.
Slash command not found
If /pilea returns “command not found,” the Slack app may not be installed correctly. Disconnect and reconnect the integration from the Integrations page in Pilea.
If none of these solve the issue, contact us via the chat bubble in the bottom right. Include your Slack workspace name and the channel where you’re experiencing the problem.
